Eco-trekking in Valgraziosa: A journey through nature and flavors with a visit to an apiary and tasting of organic honey from the area

1 Day

Set off with us on a guided hike to discover the Gracious Valley. We will start the tour from the charming Pieve di Calci, where we will have the opportunity to admire the Romanesque-style church and the baptismal font. From there, we will head to Col di Pari and make a scenic detour to Par di Rota, two villages perched on Mount Pisano, to enjoy breathtaking views of the Valgraziosa . From here we will then move on to the ancient village of Villa.

After a tour of the charming village, we will be welcomed to one of the apiaries of the “Queen of Walnut” Organic Beekeeping Farm. Here, we will have the opportunity to learn about the Farm and its commitment to the Organic method, chosen out of love for nature and bees. During the visit to the apiary, we will learn some tricks for recognizing a quality honey and have the opportunity for a guided tasting a few steps away from where it is produced.

Before concluding our itinerary, we will indulge in a snack with local products combined with the Organic Honey of “Queen of Walnut,” which will consist of a cutting board with selected meats and cheeses that go perfectly with this honey. All accompanied by a glass of local wine.

The hike led by guides from the Association “The Bivouac”

Characteristics of the route

  • Length: about 4.5Km
  • Height difference: +/- 180m
  • Duration: approx. 2½ hours of walking plus breaks

The Calcesano Ring is a trail that starts from the medieval Romanesque parish church of Calci and climbs the western slope of the Valgraziosa. The landscape varies rapidly, moving from terraces of olive trees to the characteristic maritime pine forest, and also passing through a picturesque area of cork oaks.

Arriving at the Par di Rota, there is a panoramic view of the Valgraziosa and the curves of the Arno River to the sea. From up there you can see Monte Serra, the Verruca, the Caprona Tower and the Certosa di Calci. Along a gentle dirt road that meanders through the olive trees, we first arrive at the pretty village of Villa e Colle, and then back to the Pieve di Calci.
