Our route starts from the town of San Giuliano and includes stages of significant landscape and historical interest: the pass mentioned by Dante in the XXXIII canto of the hell; the archaeological site of Monte Castellare which offers the findings of both an Etruscan historical phase and an early medieval phase; to the hermitage of Spelonca founded at the end of the 12th century. at the mouth of a cave.

The ring starts from Vicopisano to get to know the slopes of the hills that dominate the village. In a succession of luxuriant vegetation and limestone, Mediterranean scrub and waterways, we will discover landscapes, traces of history and local production that characterize this surprising portion of the territory of Monte Pisano.

Description:
The route develops on the south-western side of Monte Pisano, inside the A.N.P.I.L. Valley of the Sources. From this area rich in springs, water was channeled and conveyed for the water supply of Pisa and the surrounding areas. The wood of the maritime pines was also taken to supply the Maritime Republic of Pisa. Finally, the chestnut trees planted in the 16th century were an important source of livelihood for the local populations, especially with the production of flour.
